15 fall sick, one sent to home after hospital

Non-government teachers on Tuesday threatened to go on fast unto death from today demanding inclusion of their educational institutions in the monthly pay order system. Non-MPO teachers’ federation general secretary Binoy Bhushan Roy made the announcement.
The teachers came up with the threat on the second day of their on-going sit-in programme near the National Press Club in the capital. Tuesday was their tenth consecutive day of demonstration. The teachers also said that at least 15 teachers fell sick due to fever, dehydration and dysentery during their demonstration.
The teachers took to the streets under the banner of Non-MPO Educational Institutions’ Teachers and Employees Federation as finance minister AMA Muhith in the proposed budget for the next fiscal did not make any specific declaration about their enlistment for the financial assistance, although the prime minister Sheikh Hasina assured them of MPO inclusion in January this year.
Among the sick teachers, M Yusuf Ali of Jhenidah was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the morning and then sent to his home, said the federation general secretary Binoy Bhushan Roy.
The federation president Golam Mahmudunnabi said they would not go home until their demand was not met.
Binoy Bhushan Roy said that earlier in the beginning of the year they called off their 11 days protest, including sit-in and five days of hunger strike, on January 5 with the assurance of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
On the day, the teachers were seen passing through tiring and inhuman lives on the streets that started on Monday demanding their inclusion in the monthly pay order, under which the government pays salaries and benefits to teachers of non-government schools, colleges and technical institutions.
About hundred of teachers were attending the sit-in on the footpath and adjacent road near the National Press Club till filing the report at about 7:00pm in the evening.
About 80,000 teachers of 5,000 non-government schools, colleges and technical institutions are now outside the purview of the monthly pay order.
