Leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League allegedly dismantled the nameplate of Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia Hall of Chittagong University on Tuesday.
Campus sources said a group of BCL activists removed a signboard that led the way to the dormitory and later dismantled the dormitory nameplate in front of the hall at about 3:00pm.
At that time, they also demanded that the university administration should rename the dormitory after Bir Protik Taramon Bibi.
The BCL leaders and activists claimed that a dormitory of a university could not be named after a person who had misappropriated the money of orphans and masterminded the August 21 grenade attack.
Chittagong University proctor Mohammad Ali Asgar Chowdhury said it was not easy to change the name of the hall.
‘The university authorities will look into the matter if the BCL submits a written demand in this connection,’ he added.
