Election commissioner Kabita Khanam on Monday said that ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quder did not talk to the Election Commission before stating that the commission would announce the schedule for the next national election in the first week of November.
At a press conference at her office, she said that the schedule for the next general election would be announced in a meeting of the commission led by chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda.
Obaidul Qurder, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the comment on Sunday at his ministry.
Earlier on September 19, finance minister AMA Muhith said that the next general election was likely to be held on December 27.
A day after he made the comment, the chief election commissioner said that finance minister AMA Muhith had no authority to declare the schedule of general election and it was not his duty either.
He also said that declaring the polls date was not finance minister’s duty and it was not proper for him either.
