Pro-BNP panel sweeps in RU teachers’ assoc polls

Pro-Bangladesh Nationalist Party-backed teachers white panel swept the elections of the Rajshahi University Teachers’ Association, dean, syndicate, planning and development committee and financial committee.

The pro-BNP-backed white panel Jatiyatabadi O Islami Mullobodhe Bishwashi Shikkhak Somaj bagged most of the important posts, including RUTA president and general secretary, while ruling Awami League-backed yellow panel Muktijuddher Chetona O Mullobodhe Bishwasi Progotishil Shikkhak Somaj won a few posts.

The day-long elections for 70 posts under seven categories were held at the university teachers’ club, where around 1,150 teachers casted their votes.
RU registrar Professor MA Bari conducted the polls as the election commissioner. 

In RUTA election, the white panel bagged the posts of president, general secretary, vice-president and treasurer while the yellow panel only bagged one post of joint secretary.The white panel bagged only two posts of the executive member category while the yellow panel won the rest eight posts.

Professor Md Amzad Hossain of Finance department, Professor Golam Kibria Ferdous of Social Work department, Professor Mamunur Rashid of Pharmacy department and Professor ABM Hamidul Haque of Chemistry department were elected as president, vice president, general secretary and  treasurer while Professor Abdullah Al Maruf of Geology and Mining department won only the post of joint secretary.

In syndicate poll, Professor Abdul Alim, Professor Md Habibur Rahman Monirul Haque, Associate Professor Mohammad Monirul Haque were elected under provost, professor and associate professor categories from the white panel while Assistant Professor Abdullah Al Mamun was elected under assistant professor category from the yellow panel. 

However, Masidul Haque was elected under lecturer category from the yellow panel without any contest as the white panel could not give any candidate for the category. 

In deans’ polls, both the yellow and white panels won four posts each while the yellow panel’s Professor Md Ahsanul Haque won from the yellow panel as the white panel could not give any candidate for law faculty.

However, Professor Jafar Sadik and Professor Mahmud Hossain Riazi bagged the single post of the planning and development and financial committees.The results of teachers’ representative at senate and academic council were not published till filling the report around 9:00pm.
